As a manufacturer of insulation-, sealing- and packing-products and systems the Swiss company Swisspor has built a new warehouse for sound proofing material. It is a striking feature and it seems to be rather unusual that this warehouse is a sheer timber construction. According to a Swiss newspaper the eye-catching timber construction of the new Swisspor warehouse caused a sensation in the media because "it is currently the biggest timber-construction warehouse in Switzerland". While the construction has been realized by the Ostschweizer Blumer-Lehmann AG, a Swiss timber construction company, the beams for the roof-construction have been supplied by Derix Laminated Timber. It is well worth noting that Derix Laminated Timber has supplied 75 arches with a span length of 41 m each and a cross section of 18/200 cm. This enormous span-length matches the dimensions of a soccer-stadium. The quantity of a single shipment has been 14,8 cbm and the total amount has been 1.110 cbm. The building members have been manufactured ready for installation on site according to a stern and stringent schedule. In order to get the building material to the construction site, 25 heavy loads have been necessary.
Due to the enormous dimension of the construction, the planning process, the preparatory work as well as the transport and handling of the building material has been a challenge for all the people who have been involved in this project. As all the companies who had a stake in this project have performed effectively and since there has been an excellent cooperation with the contractor, this challenging and interesting project has been completed successfully.
