Information on Laminated Timber
Laminated Timber is a product that consists of two or more layers of dried wooden boards that are glued together. As individual pieces of lumber are joined and glued together in horizontal layers, it is possible to manufacture large structural members of Laminated Timber in any shape and size you can think of.
When compared to other building materials, Laminated Timber has several key advantages to offer. First of all, the inherent material properties of Laminated Timber are excellent. The transport of Laminated Timber can be organised very cost-effectively because wood is a light-weighted material. Further to that, wood is a natural product that grows again and it is an environmentally sound alternative to use Laminated Timber as the building material of choice.
Wood has been used as a building material for centuries. The first significant use of Laminated Timber as a building material, however, has been noted at the end of the 19th century. At that time, Otto Hetzer, famous carpenter from Weimar and a pioneer in the industry, developed further advanced techniques for the industrial fabrication of Laminated Timber.
