As sustainability is an important criterion for the construction of the new trade fair building Hall 10 (Paul Horn Hall), Messe Stuttgart has decided to realise the roof structure of the building in cooperation with ARGE Neue Messe Stuttgart L4 and timber manufacturing company Derix Group, a leader in the industry with a vast expertise in structural timber engineering.
Whereas the existing trade fair buildings are steel frame structures, this is the first time that the ecological and sustainable building material timber is used for the roof construction of a new Messe Stuttgart exhibition building. Of course, its striking profile has been visually adjusted to match the architectural style of the existing buildings and blends in perfectly now. Thus, an architecturally appealing new building increases the trade fair grounds by approximately 14,600 square metres.
In order to realise the complex roof structure the Derix Group has supplied 47 cantilever and main beams with lengths of up to 67 metres and a total volume of more than 1,700 cubic metres glulam. A landscaped roof covered with greenery complements perfectly with the choice of the sustainable and environmentally friendly building material timber and features a harmonious overall concept.
